Learning Objectives
DSM-5: The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (5th ed.) is the standard classification system used by psychologists and psychiatrists.
Criteria: A disorder must cause distress, dysfunction, deviance, and/or danger (the "4 D's") to be classified as a mental disorder.
Biopsychosocial: Most disorders have biological (genes, brain chemistry), psychological (thoughts, learning), AND social (culture, family) causes.
