Studied patients with a severed Corpus Callosum (done to stop severe seizures), revealing lateralization of brain function.
Lateralization
Left Hemisphere Controls Right side of body. In ~90% of people, houses Language (Broca's/Wernicke's), Speech, and analytical logic.
Right Hemisphere Controls Left side of body. Dominates in spatial temporal tasks, facial recognition, and perceptual organization. Mute (cannot speak).
Contralateral Routing
Information from the Left Visual Field (LVF) of BOTH eyes strikes the right half of the retina and routes exclusively to the Right Hemisphere (and vice versa).
Corpus Callosum Intact
Toggle to sever the connection (Split-Brain patient).
1. Flash Stimulus
Flash a word on the screen while the patient stares at the center dot.
2. Language (Say)
Ask the patient, "What word did you see?"
3. Motor (Point/Draw)
Ask patient to point to or draw the word with their Left Hand.
